June 2022 Newsletter

Hello Family and Friends,
We have been home from Guatemala for a week now. We finally feel “settled’ back, and are ready to send you an update about all the AMAZING things that God did while we were in Guatemala.

When Melissa went to Guatemala the first week of June, her friend, Esther from her Bible study came with her. Esther was wonderful, helping with the students and the English classes. Esther was touched by the opportunity to visit the homes of three students. She had a chance to meet the families and pray with them.

As Esther was leaving Guatemala, Shane and Kelvin, two Spanish teachers from Savannah Christian arrived. For a week, they led the English class with the students. In the afternoons, they were indispensable with the Vacation Bible School (VBS). The younger students in our afterschool English program were allowed to bring a friend to the VBS. We averaged 35 students for the week. Kelvin and Shane did a WONDERFUL job bringing the Bible message every day. Kelvin and Shane had lots of fun leading the activities and playing the games with the children. It may have been the best part of the VBS.

Melissa led the Crafts part of the VBS. Each day the students made a craft which they took home. Richard led the Snacks. It was not just something to eat. They first created their snack and then had a chance to eat it.

The biggest blessing of the week was seeing the high school students from our school being part of the VBS. They were instrumental in the success of the VBS. THEY were the ones who took over teaching music and leading the dance moves to the younger students. The biggest blessing was watching them love on the young students. God is great!

The theme of the week was, “You are God’s Masterpiece.”  On Wednesday, we took the students to see the masterpieces at the Museum of Modern Art. We had a bus load going to the museum with 54 people. The students loved the adventure. They enjoyed see the art and hearing about the different pieces. It was great to be able to take the students to the museum considering that only one student had ever been to a museum. After viewing the museum, the students had a snack and had a chance to enjoy the fresh air. They ran around and played in the park. They also did a “flash mob” of the song which they were learning during VBS. It was SUCH a fun day for us all! On Friday we ended the week with a pizza party. I think that all the children that attended had a WONDERFUL week!

We were also able to do Prayer Visits with the three children and their families that are seniors at our school this year. Prayer visits are ALWAYS our favorite part of our ministry! Praying with the families, and blessing them with a gift of food!

After a week of VBS, we took Shane and Kelvin, and our Guatemalan director, Karla to Lago de Atitlan for a little rest. At the lake, we were able to experience the Guatemalan culture.

We took all the teachers and assistants for our school and our English program out to lunch for Teacher Appreciation Day. It was great to be able to thank them for all their challenging and demanding work!

We are praying that if it’s God’s will, we will be able to open our school up to more students in our ministry in January. This will mean more sponsors, more computers, and more supplies. So, LOTS of things would need to fall into place. But we know that our God is a God of Miracles, and if it is His will it will happen.

Thanks so much for your prayers and continued support of our ministry.

God Bless,
Richard and Melissa Jefferson.
